Venice Community Day School

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

I’ve been volunteer teaching at the Venice Community Day School. It’s been real cool and I’ve gotten to meet some rad young skaters. I took these pictures on the ramp after class on Wednesday. Here are pic of one my students, Matt:

Thank You, Los Angeles!

Our friends at the Marsh Street Skatepark recently invited us by for a celebration of all of the volunteer work that has gone into maintaining and supporting the park. It was really cool, and it was nice to see such a tight knit community taking pride in its accomplishments. I’ve seen a lot of kids get a few years older and a few year’s better at skating since the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust put in the park, and I think it’s a great model for communties looking for ways to develop small park land in a way that kids will get hyped on. People check it out. Meanwhile, dig on the fancy certificates me and the LOP recieved for our support. Thanks Tanya and Joel and everyone else who is involved.

It’s a special day today… in with the new, out with the old. Watching GW leave office, I couldn’t help but remember this classic board from the LOP archives. Painted in ‘05 (I know there’s some Ripper remix art show going on somewhere about now, unrelated) by Jay Rogers (H-Street, Arcade, Autobahn, Salt Peter), this one of a kind piece of history could be yours, and could help us out with our mission at the LOP. Email me at go@thelandofplenty.org for details. Thanks Jay, thanks George.

Interns

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

LOP intern Edward came by the office the other day. I hadn’t seen him in a while. We talked about plans for the new year. This picture was taken at the Artistic Influenza show in North Hollywood. That’s Ed and one of the girls from John Burroughs High School that was hosting the event. Classic.

Eric Munsell recently sent some more photos from his trip to Jamaica. Here’s a nice one to share.

Check One Check Two

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

Hello, Party People. Welcome to the Land Of Plenty Skateboard Foundation Internet Site Blog, where you can check in on the latest happenings in the world of the LOP. We have just turned the corner into 2009, and off the top of my head here are some things you can look forward to:

  • Board show, with Doug Miles, featuring boards from our Jamaica/Venice Board Exchange, at a gallery in Venice Beach, CA
  • Some new tshirt designs
  • A bunch of new video stuff, particularly now that LOP video intern Han Su is back on the West Coast
  • Speaking of the LOP interns, they are rebuilding the old LOP/Sakebomb ramp in Claremont, CA and are going to shred it
  • We will be selling some of the boards from our permanent collection and they will be hot to the touch
  • Apache Skate Blast is coming up…

That’s all I can think of right now. Anyway, we’ll be posting pictures and rough edits and letting you know our whereabouts and plans on this blog, and if you are the kind of person who likes to read such things, I can’t see why this won’t work out good for everyone involved.

Peace out and let’s keep in touch
