Just got back from San Carlos, AZ, where the LOP went out to support the Apache Skate Blast, a competition organized by Doug Miles of Apache Skateboards. Doug worked with Rob of AZPX and Brian of the legendary JFA to set up a contest and skaterock concert at the Boys and Girl's club skatepark on Apache land. We helped judge the contest, brought prizes donated by Girl and The Skateboard Mag, and had a chance to meet the local skaters holding it down on the Reservation. Everyone was charging, having a good time, and LOP General Donny Barley (Zoo York) came out to skate and help spread the love. We gave out 20 LOP board exchange decks for 10 skaters, were treated to a BBQ with Doug's family, and were really happy to have been able to participate in something so positive. We are going to post a complete article with photos and video with our next update, coming soon. Thanks again to everyone for having us. See you next year- and keep up the support- Apache Skateboards, AZPX, and the LOP are hoping to gather resources to get this park expanded to keep up with the talents of the local skaters. Still prepping for the remaining auction- if you have been waiting for it, thanks for your patience. We are going to be letting loose 20 boards, including pieces by Donny Barley, Eric Dressen, Steve Olson, Geoff Mcfetridge, Andy Jenkins, Rob Abeyta, and many more. So hang tight, and check your email for the annoucement (and sign up for the mailing list if you haven't already). In the meantime we are getting ready for our 06 projects, which will include sending out a bunch of boards and connecting to groups of youth looking to get their shred on and their art out. We are also dealing with various legal/financial/business stuff, but that's not exciting enough to get into here. What is exciting was the Fuel coverage that recently aired on Daily Habit, which we hope to post soon. Chris Pastras, Tyrell Withersbee, Jeff Tully and friends did a great job putting together a spot and we are thankful at the LOP for the coverage. Check back soon for a site update, footage, and some trailers for the short film "Experiment in Progress", which will be released in the Spring and will speak to a lot of the ideas that have been floating around here for a while.

We would like to welcome Natalie Carlson to the LOP team, an old friend with a long history of working on cool and inspiring projects. She is going to play a major role in shaping the LOP mission and integrating the LOP into the non-profit world. Glad to have you on board, Natalie.

Also: we are looking for a volunteer to help with website upkeep and maintenance. If you have html skills (and beyond) and would like to contribute some positive energy to the LOP skateboard foundation, please send an emailand we can talk specifics. Thanks, yo.

We have gotten through 3 of the 5 planned auctions for the first Round of Land Of Plenty Boards. In an effort to maximize attention on the remaining boards for sale, we are going to take a brief intermission as we prepare internally and externally. We are reorganzing the site, working with some new volunteers, and reaching out to sponsors to help open new channels of information exchange. If you haven't already, please write and sign up for the mailing list. Expect to see some action at the end of the month. Stay tuff. Land Of Plenty!

Happy New Year from the LOP. 2005 was a big year for us, getting things up and running and pulling off our first show. Now that we are building up a reputation and some resources, plans for 06 are falling into place. Thanks to everyone for your support, this year we are going to make some magic happen. Keep checking back, we will have a major website overhaul soon, more featured boards, some video clips, and lots of new projects to get popping.

We are now on round 3 of the LOP ebay auction, 10 more boards are now online including a photo board by Irwin Lewis of the Apache Skateboards Team, a Chris Pastras original, a poem and painting collaboration by Reza Bahador (Hapkido blackbelt) and G. Shewchuk, and a bunch of others by participants in the Board Exchange. Check them out, spread the word, get those bids up, and keep believing.

news 12.20.05

The first round of LOP board auctions on eBay has gone down. Everything sold! Nice nice nice. So the next round (2 of 5) starts at 3pm today, so check back and see what comes up next. We have a Brian Lotti, a Kien Lieu poem board, and more by Aryeh Kraus, Amika Akaya, Ekwain Akaya, Doug Miles Jr., and other participants in the Board Exchange. This one is a 10 day auction to stretch things out a little bit through the holidays, and I'm still experimenting with reserve prices etc to see how best to market the project. Please help spread the word! The more people who know about these auctions, the more bids we get, the more money we raise for the Board Exchange for next year. Good looking out, thanks to everyone who just bought an LOP board, and extra thanks to everyone who created the boards to begin with.

So far you can bid on an Aryeh Kraus, Yohei Miyazawa, Jack Greer, Ekwain Akaya, Steven Nereo, Tim Kerr, Bret Banta, Jahmal Williams, Rich Jacobs, and Donny Barley handpainted boards, all proceeds going back to the LOP Board Exchange so we can purchase product for next year and distribute it to youth who can use it. We will post 10 more boards next monday, and continue doing so each week until we have auctioned the remaining 50+ boards from the show, including many that have not yet been featured on the site. If you are in the neighborhood, stop by the Brooklyn Projects skateshop at 7664 Melrose Ave to see 10 boards still on display from the 1st LOP boardshow. These are some major pieces, including Eric Dressen, Bret Banta, Geoff McFetridge, Gomez Bueno, Greg Shewchuk, Andy Jenkins, Jason Rogers, Donny Barley, Rich Jacobs, and Jiro Yaguchi. 3 of these boards are up for auction on eBay, don't wait for them to disappear...

news 12.12.05

The 1st LOP boardshow went off without a hitch- there was a great turnout, a mean collection of artworks, smooth music, and as predicted, a heavy duty session on the Brooklyn Projects mini ramp. We raffled off a hand-painted Chad Muska board, raised some money and got things started off proper. Thanks to everyone for making it happen- we will soon post some photos and video of the event. We are also about to begin auctioning off the boards, starting tomorrow we will be posting LOP decks, 10 at a time on eBay. We will also have tshirts for sale on the site. So check back and get ready to bid, the LOP is now officially launched. Actualize the dream.

news 12.11.05

Today is the day. We are busy running around making last minute preperations, but let me say everything is coming together nicely and we are geared up for getting down. Barley, Muska, and the rest of the BP crew have refreshed the miniramp in preperation for a master jam, the last of the boards are coming in and they are all absolutely amazing (not to mention a few rumored last last minute entries that I personally don't even know about yet), the shirts have arrived and we have a 24 page zine/catalog that will be available. A silent auction will send out 7 boards tonight, as well as a raffle for a deck and some tshirts and zines. We have people coming from all over the country to check this one out. Local press has been generous, the internet has been firing, and it sounds like everyone is down to have a good time. We will be posting the latest boards and shots from the show etc next week, as well as taking the auction live and online. So check back, get some, and enjoy the Land Of Plenty.

It's zero hour. More boards coming in: Geoff McFetridge. Andy Jenkins. Brian Lotti. Reza Bahador. Again: serious business. Printing up "Wooden Swords", volume 1.1 of the LOP catalog and journal- which will be available for a small donation at the show. Chris Pastras is slated to be the Fuel TV news host for "The Daily Habit" covering the event. Donny Barley and Jason Rogers are among those threatening to murder the ramp. I'll say it again: don't miss it.

news 12.7.05

Woah! More boards coming in: Steve Olson. Jason Rogers. Jiro Yaguchi (check the featured boards). Doug Miles. Gomez Bueno. Rob Abeyta. Eric Dressen. Serious, serious business. Meanwhile, we got Mr. Dope America lined up to spin records. The mini ramp is getting primed. It's gonna go off. This Sunday, 7pm to 10pm. Don't miss it.

Big Shout Out goes to Shaney Jo Darden of the Keep A Breast Foundation, a great organization that auctions original artwork to "produce art events that increase breast cancer awareness among young people and benefit breast cancer education, prevention and treatment programs in communities around the world." Shaney Jo lent her insight and advice regarding the auction/show process, which was invaluable. Thanks, SJ. Look for an LOP collaboration sometime next year, they are doing really great things and it would be a privilege to work together. Watch out.

news 12.2.05

The press is picking up on the LOP, so far we've had mentions on Crail Tap, Skate Daily, Slap Magazine, and we have Fuel TV rolling out for the event. Also, the largest newspaper in Arizona is doing an article on Doug Miles' Apache Skateboards, which should include a mention of the upcoming LOP board show. Raging. If you know anyone at any other news outlets, please forward the word to get some more online linkage, or have them roll by the show for coverage. Thanks to everyone for the support.

Posted the LOP Myspace page today, peep it at: http://www.myspace.com/thelandofplenty. Technology has reached a point where throbbing networks of information can extend instantly to nearly every human on the planet. Could be a bummer, particularly if you spew negative thoughts and waste a lot of time in front of the computer, but with a skateboard in hand and some perspective, it could be the way the LOP spins a web across the globe in the blink of an eye. It's all good, just keep it positive. Thanks to Isac Walter and Donny Barley for blowing it up...

news 11.29.05

Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving, the Holidays are upon us and it's time to spread some love. Welcome to the Land of Plenty. There are a few new boards for you to check out in the featured section, DB, Jahmal Williams, and Tim Kerr- three heavy hitters with a passion for the good stuff. Currently working on getting things together for the show in two weeks, including hooking up with press, calling for the last of the boards, and getting tshirts printed. Justin at Generator has extended his generosity even further and is contributing 150 shirts (3 different designs) for the show, so things are really coming together. Keep checking in, and hope to see you soon.

news 11.21.05

Checked out Doug Mile's show in Eagle Rock this weekend, it was great. If you are in the area stop by and see what's up. Doug's work 'redefines indigenous arts', and you'll see what that means when you check out the stencils and icons and skateboards he has created. Doug is generously contributing a board to the LOP show on the 11th, along with some young Native American skaters from AZ, which is going to be amazing. Make sure you come out and see what's going down.

--------------------------------

news 11.18.05

Hey, we have put a pay pal link on the info page, so you can make a contribution to the LOP with pay pal or a credit card directly through the website. People have been writing asking about the boards, they will be available for online auction soon, and we have some sick artists and skaters who have promised boards- so check back for updates and get ready to bid.

Alright alright, we got this thing on lock now. Check the //EVENTS// page up there to save the date on the inaugural LOP Board Show and Auction. Dom over at Brooklyn Projects has hooked up the spot at his skateshop, and with a spined mini ramp in back you know it's the real deal. Check back on the site to see what boards are being added to the show. Help spread the word, the skate community will be out in force, and it would be great to bring peeps from different backgrounds into the mix. In other words, bring your parents, kids, and invite your boss. Corresponding Ebay auction in the works, if you are local to LA and want to help set up, please contact me and we'll figure it out.

news 11.02.05

I got a call one day from Doug Miles, artist and owner of Apache, a Native American skate company based out of Arizona, who was feeling the LOP vibe. We sent 20 boards (donated by Girl Skateboards) to Doug and school teacher Rich Borshard, to use in an art contest they are holding for Native American Youth. Some of these boards will be available for viewing and purchase at the upcoming LOP board show. Apparently there are some young rippers/artists out that way, and we were stoked to be able to contribute to the plan. If you are in LA, you might want to check out Doug's upcoming show 'Reciprocal Cultura: A Redifinition of Indigenous Arts' opening November 19th at Imix Bookstore in Eagle Rock.

As The Land Of Plenty gears up for getting down in Los Angeles, the immediate situation in Hurricane Katrina-struck areas demands attention. We are currently looking for shops or individuals in the New Orleans area to coordinate with so we can provide some equipment to locals who have been affected; if there has ever been a time when a free skate could help take your mind off things, this would be it. While we urge everyone to contribute directly to The Salvation Army, if you would like to support the LOP but want to focus specifically on affected areas in the South, let us know. And if you live in the area and have connections to the skateboard community, please drop us a line and we will see what we can figure out. Heads up!

Interviewed Kien The Donger Lieu for the upcoming LOP short film "Experiment in Progress". Kien is heavy, don't sleep on the message. Danny Minnick, owner of The Blvd. skate co. was also in the house, and contributed a couple boards to the LOP on the spot (including a signed board by Paulo Diaz, which will soon wind up in the hands of a local homie.) Thanks, guys.
