Venice Community Day School is a Heidi Lemmon (SpaUSA) project, an accredited LA Unified High School situated at the Unified Methodist Church on Lincoln Blvd. in Venice. All of the students skate, there is a massive mini-ramp next to the school, and for their art cirriculum the students have been painting boards for the LOP (and are currently working on a mural). These decks got made into completes and sent to some students in Jamaica, who then painted boards to send back in return. date: May 2008

Eric Munsell hooked us up with the kids in Jamaica. We donated the 10 hand painted completes and he did the rest. We threw in 10 blanks for the kids to paint and send back to the American skaters (the students at the Venice Community Day School.) This is the part of our programming called International Outreach. We are taking this world wide. date: August 2008

This would be Chad Muska, legend, and Geoff Mcfetridge, legend, getting double stoked at the "Experiment in Progress" 2005 LOP Boardshow at Brooklyn Projects on Melrose in LA. Chad painted this board and we put it up for raffle, and Geoff (another contributing artist) won! It was pretty funny. Geoff was hyped, last I saw this board was hanging in his studio. date: December 2005

Generator Imaging, a wood supplier for many a quality skate co., has really given the LOP a boost by donating boards. This was a massive (for us) shipment of Board Exchange blanks, all of which had custom screened top graphics for the artists to fill out with personal details. All of these boards have gone out to skaters through our programming. In case you don't know, a new skateboard deck every now and then makes a huge difference to a young skater. date: June 2007

All it takes is one good teacher to inspire you and really open your mind. That said, our schools are underfunded and art programs are being cut. Beth Morrison of John Burroughs High School in Burbank is one of those teachers who fights to get her students involved. The result was some of the best art, and the best art show, we've had to date, and her students really came through to support the cause. This photo was taken during an LA Times photo shoot reporting the event (inset). date: June 2008

Two of Jacob Borshard's students from Alchesay High School in White River, AZ. Doug Miles hooked us up with this teacher and his class, and they were some of the first out-of-state participants in the Board Exchange. date: May 2006

The two dudes (Chris and Chase) standing in this photo approached the LOP through Donny Barley with a bold idea: hold a career-focused event that would bring young artists together with professionals in the skateboard industry. Together we created Career Day, held at the Alex Cheung Gallery in Chinatown, and it was a big success. That's Andy Meuller (Lakai), Andy Jenkins (Girl Skateboards) and Justin Regan (Altamont) schooling some youngsters on how things work in the real world. date: March 2008

This is kind of how the LOP started: taking used skateboard decks and finding kids who needed something- anything- to skate on. You'll find skaters across the country who collect boards to recycle and give to lesser-endowed skate rats, and to this day it's something we continue to do, in addition to our regular programming. If it's still skateable, trust me, there's someone in this world who could use it. There is plenty to go around. Recycle! date: 2008

Another early group of Board Exchange Participants, these ladies were part of Jeremy Carple's group at the I Have A Dream Foundation in Portland, OR. Women have always been a part of skateboarding, and it's always cool to see young ladies participating in our programs. date: February 2005

Chris Shewchuk is a true believer. He's done a lot of hard work to support the LOP. This was before we were getting custom screenprints from Generator, and we would hand stencil all of the blanks. date: April 2006

The Marsh Street Skatepark in Los Angeles is a LA Neighborhood Land Trust project- a really interesting take on the reclaiming of small public parks in overcrowded metropolitan areas. What better use of space for the kids than a skatepark? When we announced that we would be holding a Board Painting Event, way more kids turned up than we could even handle. Tons of boards were painted, ramps were shredded, and a good time was had by all. date: March 2008

Schools, skateparks, churches, community centers: these are good places to get some LOP action in the mix. This photo was taken at our first visit to El Centro Cultural de Mexico in Santa Ana, CA. Everywhere you go, there are skaters ready to bust, and painting a board in exchange for a new one is a win-win situationa for everyone involved. date: August 2006

We attend the Apache Skate Blast every year and donate what we can. This year we brough about 50 pairs of Lakais, some LOP and Girl boards, and some crew. We support local skateparks. When the Garvanza/Highland Park skatepark opened, we donated some product and got in there. It was going off. Skateparks are a fine thing, I don't know what else to tell you. I've got some really funny photos from this day, if you look close you can see LOP intern Ben about to charge on the door (helmet and glasses), he was the first one in to skate the bowl. date: june 2007

Local skatepark = local kids doing positive things. Whenever they have an event at the Marsh St. park we try and support with product donations. This was taken during a game of SKATE. I've seen these dudes get seriously good in the past few years. Just goes to show you what happens when you pay attention and give kids an opportunity to do something creative. date: October 2007

When I first told Donny Barley about the LOP, in 2001, when it was just an idea, he didn't hesitate. "I'm down." That's how he does things. He's a real inspiration, not just as a skater, but a man of the people. This photo was taken at his summer camp, which donates all proceeds to the local park in Groton, his hometown. He runs a skateshop in Providence now called The Fountain of Youth. date: July 2006

Beth Morrison's High School art class not only painted boards for the LOP, they raised the money to rent out a gallery for an art show. It went seriously off. Tons of people, tons of great art, great conversations. We should have one of these every weekend somewhere. date: May 2008

The LOP offices are located in the Brewery, an art studio enclave in downtown LA. Every six months they have Art Walk, a public event where studio doors are opened to the general public. We don't do it every time, but sometimes. This photo was at Fall 06, and we were selling our Little Monster completes. Matt Willigan, an old skate homey from my Maryland days, cruised through to check us out and show some support. date: October 2007

It's not easy to become an LOP intern. You have to pass a rigorous series of tests to even be considered. Han Su Kim, pictured here, successfully completed the buttery flip trick reqiurements, and was in no way limited in this regard by having to skate a cruiser-size board. Here he busts a clean kicky on a Little Monster (that he painted) date: November 2007

Carmelo (aka the Mayor of Atwater Village, CA) got a bunch of local kids together for a board painting at Geoff Mcfetridge's Studio. It went great. And I hate to say this, but a few weeks later some kids (not these guys) got blasted (like, killed, with guns) right next to this location. Like the Mayor said, you really have to give kids something to do or they are just going to get into something you don't want them to get into. Skateboarding is Non-Violent. Recognize. date: February 2008
